Guaranteed Investment Certificate

Safe and secure, a GIC guarantees the rate of return for the chosen term as well as your original investment (the principal).

  • Can also be held in registered products such as RRSPs, RRIFs and TFSAs.1
  • Flexible terms range from 1 to 5 years.
  • Interest is calculated and paid annually.
  • Available in Canadian dollars only.
  • View GIC rates.

Eligible deposits in registered accounts have unlimited coverage through the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA).

Eligible deposits (not in registered accounts) are insured up to $250,000 through the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA).

Term Deposits

Built for the shorter term, a term deposit is a secure investment that generally offers a higher rate of interest than a traditional savings account. Attractive not only for its security, it also offers a predictable rate of growth and is not exposed to the risk of losses due to market fluctuations.

  • Can also be held in registered products such as RRSPs, RRIFs and TFSAs.1
  • Flexible terms range from 30 to 270 days.
  • Available in CAD, USD and euro.

Index-Linked Term Deposits

Also referred to as Market-Linked Term Deposits, these are offered in 3- and 5-year terms. Each offers a guarantee of your principal with a rate of return tied to growth in the stock market; these are based on the performance of the S&P and TXS60 Index. 2

Benefit from a higher potential return than a fixed-rate deposit, but with no risk to your initial investment – no matter what happens in the stock market, you are guaranteed the return of your principal when your deposit matures.
